Burning House, Burnt Life

The title of my project comes from the quote “When you’re born in a burning house, you think the whole world is on fire. But it’s not.” (Richard Kadrey). In this quote, being born in a burning house represents growing up with unstable family relationships, and the person who grows up with these psychological factors thinks that the lives outside the environment are similar if not the same as theirs. “Burnt Life” represents the main character Bunny, who feels like she has reached a point where she can’t be helped.

Bunny represents Borderline personality disorder. Most patients with borderline personality disorder feel that their personalities are shaped by the events around them. My project also describes Bunny’s family, platonic, and romantic relationships, and how she copes with them, how she reacts, and how they affect her.

My aim with this project is to touch on sensitive topics that most people go over, can’t talk about, and are considered taboo and not mentioned, and to make people realize that they are not alone. To address the unknown prevalence of having Cluster B personality disorder, and to show that especially Borderline, Bipolar and Autistic people, no matter how much they receive negative reactions with their emotions and are told they are doing wrong, try not to find abnormality in their mistakes.

Logline: The narration of the experiences of a character who grew up with unstable relationships through sections and poetic monologue.
